Nature Adventure for Couples
Nature Adventure in Thailand
Couples getaway or honeymoon with a difference

Create memories to cherish on this tropical nature adventure for two. With your partner or a friend you'll enjoy a whole host of experiences, from bathing elephants and diving into waterfalls, to learning to cook Thai food and witnessing millions of bats swarming into the night sky (from a safe distance!). You'll meet and make friends with real local people while you trek up a mountain, visit hilltribes, shop at markets and see the sights of Thailand.

Your two-week adventure starts in Bangkok, with a whistlestop tour of key palaces and temples before venturing north. You'll explore a 10-tier waterfall near Chiang Mai, before you meet (and bathe) elephants and get to know local people.

Further north, you'll leave the beaten track behind as you trek up a mountain on the border with Laos, take a dip in hot springs and dine outside under the stars. You'll also visit a primary school in a nearby hilltribe village.

The final leg of your adventure will see you exploring Khao Yai National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This massive nature and wildlife reserve is home to hundreds of species of birds and mammals, and thousands of species of plants. You'll go on a safari, trek through the jungle and watch as millions of bats swarm out into the night sky. And you'll have some time to relax by the pool here as well.

This is a private tour that can be taken at your own pace and can be customised to meet your requirements.

Day 1
Direct flight from London Heathrow from Bangkok with Eva Air or Thai Airways.

Day 2
Transfer from Bangkok airport with one of our drivers. Settle in and relax in your charming boutique inn away from the hustle and bustle of the city. In the evening, your driver will take you to have dinner at an idyllic restaurant on the banks of the Chao Praya river.

Day 3 breakfast (included)
After a lie-in, you're off to see the key sights with your private guide – the Grand Palace, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Wat Pho and Wat Arun – travelling by riverboat taxi and visiting local markets en route. You'll be back at the inn by late afternoon to relax and plan your evening out in Bangkok. Perhaps dinner in a rooftop restaurant? Or maybe a shopping trip to a night bazaar? There is plenty to choose from in the maps and tips we have given you – just let your driver know where you want to go.

Day 4 breakfast & dinner
Time to get away from the city and start your eco-adventure! After a short flight to Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand, you'll be taken to a private home in a residential area just outside the city centre. Once you've settled into your bedroom (you'll also have your own bathroom), the family will take you on a tour of the local area, before you enjoy a home-cooked welcome dinner. You also have the option of staying in a boutique inn in the older part of Chiang Mai city (no change in costs, however, dinner will be excluded on Days 4, 7 and 8).

Day 5 breakfast
Morning visit to an orchid farm and then on to the Mae Sa waterfalls. You'll have plenty of time to explore the ten tiers of cascading water and watch the plentiful tropical birds and butterflies. Later on, after you've had time to shower and change, your driver will take you into Chiang Mai town so you can visit the famous night bazaar.

Days 6 & 7 breakfast, lunch, dinner
Elephants! Over the next two days you'll meet elephants at one of two elephant conservation parks. Elephant Nature Park is a hands-off experience. At Baan Chang park you'll have a hands-on experience, learning how to communicate and care for the elephants, scrubbing them down in the river and taking them into the forest. Please note that these two days will be on a join-in basis with other people (smaller numbers at Ban Chang than Elephant Nature Park). Accommodation is rustic (though we have an agreement that as Tell Tale Travellers, you will have your own room) and worth it for the sound of elephants snoring! You can take just take an overnight bag (your room in Chiang Mai will be kept for you). At the end of the second day, you'll be taken back to Chiang Mai in time for a delicious home-cooked dinner and stay the night (unless you chose to stay in the boutique inn).

Day 8 breakfast, dinner
Sightseeing around the ancient city and temples of Chiang Mai with your driver. Watch local craftsmen and women at work in the handicraft villages around the city centre and pick up some souvenirs from their co-operatives. Enjoy an informal Thai cookery lesson this evening before you feast on your efforts (or just watch and eat!).

"Without a doubt this would have been the most exciting and the best holiday my wife and I ever had. Our guides who were just fantastic, Amm, Parr and Apple were so informative without being boring, we had so many laughs..The food was delicious and out of this world. The proprietors of the resorts and houses were all wonderful and all contributed to making our holiday a memorable trip."

Day 9 breakfast, dinner
Today you'll leave Chiang Mai and head north, being driven through some truly fabulous scenery. You'll stop to visit the famous 'White Temple'. Then it's time to switch to a 4WD for the journey into the misty mountains, stopping for a dip in some hot springs along the way. You'll arrive at a rustic rural retreat and have time to settle in before a delicious homecooked dinner with the freshest fruit and vegetables imaginable.

Day 10 breakfast, lunch, dinner
Today you'll trek across the rice fields and up the mountain. This is very much off the beaten track with your guide cutting trails as you go and building a fire to make a barbeque lunch in bamboo. You'll also have an exhilarating longtail boat ride along the Mae Kok river and visit Lahu and Akha hilltribes.

Day 11 breakfast, lunch, dinner
Visit a local village today (where you can visit the school for young children if it is open today) and then trek through the forest to the waterfalls for a refreshing swim. You're far away from the tourist trail now, so you may well have the waterfalls to yourselves!

Day 12 breakfast
You're flying back to Bangkok this morning (from Chiang Rai) and then you'll be driven east to near Khao Yai National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Thailand's earliest national park and wildlife reserve. There will be time to settle into the charming laidback nature resort and take a dip in the pool before an evening trip to the local night market. This is a genuine market for locals of the Isan region – we recommend getting dinner from one of the many food stalls.

Day 13 breakfast
Morning and early afternoon are yours to enjoy – relax in the beautiful gardens or take a dip in the pool. A private guide will take for your first visit into Khao Yai national park this afternoon, just in time to witness millions of bats swarming out into the night sky.

Day 14 breakfast
An early start this morning but it will be worth it. You're going on a wildlife-spotting trek (or gentle amble) with your expert guide. In the afternoon you'll drive around this vast wildlife and nature reserve for your chance to spot more animals, such as deer, gibbons and monkeys. From elephants at the salt lick to the gibbons in the trees, he/she will know the best places to go and pace the day to suit you.
