Private tour in Brazil
Birds and the Bees

This trip in Brazil. State of Parana.

Day 1: Fly to Brazil. Regional departures are possible.

Day 2: You'll be met at Iguacu and taken on a short drive. Arrival at either b&b or resort and relax from your flight with a swim in the pool. Or stretch your legs in the small town.

Day 3 B: Visit the Brazilian side of the waterfalls and enjoy the birdlife with your private guide. Later he'll take you to visit the bird park, a great place to see tropical birds up close and personal.

Day 4 B: Your guide will take you to visit the Argentinian side of the waterfalls, again a haven for birds.

Day 5 B: Today, you'll head off, you'll be driven to Iguacu to fly to Curitiba, the capital of the State of Parana. We particularly like cycling around this small clean city, but you can walk or be driven if you prefer! You'll have some guided sightseeing before you have an evening to choose where to have dinner from our list of recommended restaurants.

Day 6 B: Up early today. Brazil is not big on trains but today you'll board the Serra Verde Express, a vintage railway, a train ride through rainforest, past rivers and mountains. The Atlantic rainforest in this parts is one of the best preserved in the whole of this vast country. You'll arrive in a charming colonial city, dating back to the gold diggers of the 18th century. The architecture of the 19th century mansions reflect the city's glorious past. These days, the population makes its money from agriculture, so tourism is a great way for them to make money, away from the beaches and Rio and Salvador of mainstream tourism. We love having lunch by Nhundiaquara River, which flows right through the centre of the city. Walk around town this evening before overnight at a boutique inn.

Day 7 B: Back to nature today. You'll explore a forest reserve, thriving with birds. You'll also see authentic beekeeping. Modern beekeeping relies on European bees which produce more honey, yet these bees are low-maintenance, particularly as you don't need any protective gear, they are stingless!

Day 8 B : Pack up and head off. You're off to Honey Island! No bees alas at 'Ilha do Mel', although the small island with its stretches of sandy beaches and mangroves are full of flora and fauna. You'll have a boat trip across the sea to the island. Settle into your lodge before a late afternoon walk to the lighthouse to watch the sun down.

Day 9 B: A trek to the fortress, a great way to enjoy the nature of this lovely island. You may see some birds form the golden-crowned Golden-Crowned Warbler to the kelp gull.

Day 10 B: Day at leisure to enjoy sun and sea.

Day 11 B: Time to pack up then you'll have a boat trip and drive to Curitiba airport. Fly back (you will change planes).
