Everyone who books a trip with Tell Tale Travel receives a special pack in the post before their trip which includes travel guidelines, cultural guidelines and Tell Tale tips. In the meantime, here is some essential information.
Personal Travel Insurance
We recommend you take out travel insurance soon after booking your Tell Tale trip if you don't already have a suitable annual policy. We recommend looking at Rothwell & Towler's comprehensive and well-priced policies. Their general policy is
World First, or if you have specific medical requirements
Travel Insurance for Medical.
You can also telephone them on 0845 80 90 161 (UK number) and say you are travelling with Tell Tale Travel. Please ensure your travel insurance is suitable for your individual circumstances and covers cancellations.
Visas
For Thailand, UK passport holders (as well as from 42 other countries including most of the EU, Australia, South Africa, Canada and the US) are given 30 day 'Tourist Visa Exemptions' on arrival. UK passport holders also do not need visas for Brazil. For Sri Lanka you will need to complete a
form and pay a fee for electronic permission. We recommend doing this at least one week in advance of your trip, although it is possible to get a visa on arrival. For Cambodia, you will need a passport photo and 30 US dollars on arrival. For further information, please visit the website for the embassy within your country.
Health
You should visit your doctor or health clinic well in advance of a trip. To prepare for this visit, an excellent resource for health information is the NHS's
Fit for Travel, or the resource used by many health professionals,
NaTHNaC.
For your reference, currently Tell Tale itineraries do not include any areas (including the Pantanal in Brazil) marked as high risk on malaria maps. Also, the World Health Organisation has certified Sri Lanka as malaria free across the whole island.
Travel Advice
A useful resource for official travel advice is the
Foreign Office website, although bear in mind it will always be on the very safest side.
Airline Tickets
We usually email international airline tickets one month before departure.
Sadly, many airlines now charge for seat selection in advance of check in. If you wish to select and pay for seating you can do this on the airline's website. If you do not wish to pay in advance, the scheduled airlines we use usually automatically seat together, however, we recommend you check in online as soon it opens (usually 24-72 hours before your flight, depending on the airline) so you can view and change your seats.
On certain airlines and/or certain fares, we may be able to select seating in advance for you for no extra cost, and if this is the case, we will do so. Please kindly note we can never reserve emergency exit row seats.
Airport Lounges
Private airport lounges can be less expensive than you think when you consider food and drink prices at the airport, and can make all the difference to your journey. We recommend booking in advance with
